8 Movie Poster Analysis

Blade Runner

Genre:Sci-fi, Noir, Action (lights and futuristic buildings)
Narrative: Trying to find someone (almost detective like there is a female character with a cigarette which could generally be associated with classic detective film)
Audience: Older and educated maybe young adults and older teenagers (noir themes and action which would be much more appealing to these age groups, and when the movie first came out i would suggest that men were more interested in it however i think that now in contemporary society with stem being so much more popular with females i believe that it would also appeal to them)

Scary Movie 2

Genre: Horror comedy, dark humour (more light-hearted imagery compared to other horror films there are a lot more clearly exaggerated faces that would suggest this)
Narrative: Parody of other horror movies (lots of parodies like the 'O' in the title 'Movie' which is from castaway which could suggest that the whole point of this movie is to be a comedic parody playing fun at different movies)
Audience: teens and young adults (horror and comedy which would appeal to a much younger audience as it may be seen as too vulgar by some of the older people)

Uzak:

Genre: Drama, psychological (cold and dreary with a mysterious figure that inst explained nor do we know their face which creates a sense of mystery and the unknown)
Narrative: Feeling distant from someone, psychological pain (uzak means distant which could refer to someone they know being distant from them either in the case of death or physically being apart)
Audience: Older, educated, wealthy (foreign language film for those who have learnt the language in their spare time and can afford the screenings for these films)

Im not scared:

Genre: Thriller, Crime, Mystery (mysterious hole with the boy looking bewildered at what he is seeing and could be a crime as it is possibly something that he wasn't meant to find)
Narrative: Finding something in a hole (there is a hole and the fact the supposed protagonist in the poster is also 'saying' that he is not scared could suggest that there is something ominous about this situation with the hole)
Audience: Younger teens maybe even some adults educated, wealthy (foreign language film which would be much popular with people learning the foreign languages compared to someone who cannot even speak it )

Sin City:
Genre: Noir, Crime, Action, Thriller (lots of light contrast and people who look like they are possibly undercover or trying to stay out of sight)
Narrative: Fighting crime in the city (people are holding guns and seems like they are determined to achieve something in sin city)
Audience: Older, more educated, male (more noir and action based which is highly associated with older males as its grim and darker atmosphere may not appeal to younger audiences)

Pirates of the Caribbean dead mans chest:

Genre: Adventure, action (pirates and lots of almost otherworldly imagery such as a man with an octopus face and a kraken that's attacking a ship and dragging it down into the depths)
Narrative: Pirates locating a valuable chest (dead mans chest from the title but also the dark aesthetic of the poster)
Audience: Kids and teenagers (a film about pirates appeals to more younger people than old as it may be seen as much more fantastical)

Bride and Prejudice:
Genre: Romance, drama (lots of happy celebratory imagery but the characters are also looking away from each other which may show a little distance from each other)
Narrative: people of different backgrounds getting married and are being stopped by others (prejudice in the title)
Audience: Women, people soon to get married (may be relatable and romance is generally more popular with female audiences rather than male)

Million dollar baby:
Genre: Action, Drama, Sport (looks like a sports arena and the lighting on the poster makes it out to be quite dark which could establish a sense of violence or tension)
Narrative: Fighting in a competition to gain recognition (fighting is generally for money and fame as the woman on the front looks quite determined which could imply her ambitious nature)
Audience: Women, People in sport, Young adults (may be relatable and exciting as it could show female strength that is not exactly portrayed very often in terms of sport in film)

Magazine first rough

Front Double page spread Extra page

Print brief research and planning

Brief Print You should create  four pages from a music magazine  – specifically: a  front cover  featuring the artist/band promoted in Task One a  two-page interview  with the artist/band one page with  content relevant to the magazine  and the target audience. The magazine targets a  mainstream music audience . The front cover and interview can use some images from the same photoshoot but other original images should also be used that offer some visual variety. The interview should be used to promote the tour and the music track. It should also reinforce the brand image of the artist/band and integrate some reference to the footwear manufacturers who are sponsoring the band/artist. What do you need to produce? 1) The front page (A4 portrait) for a new, original music magazine aimed at a mainstream audience that you have created: Title and masthead - DY (Discordant Youth) Selling line (slogan) - ( Rising star/Revolutionising what it means to ...

Rough draft feedback

Estimated current grade: C   Comments & feedback:   There are some very nice moments here – the artist branding is excellent (in fact, you should make more of it!) and the narrative/performance crossover basically works. Some of the performance shots are really good and the simple narrative is satisfying. The challenge now is to look over the structure of the three minutes and also think about whether it’s worth shooting or re-shooting any of the sections. You have a shot of the Converse shoes (very briefly) but I wonder if that element of the brief is something you could make more of? Is there any way you could tie it into the narrative at all? The performance element – the close-ups and moving camera are good but the wide shot with the backdrop not covering the whole shot. Deliberate?  Lip syncing (and guitar syncing) is not quite on it – is that a performance or editing thing? This wil...
