Mise-en-scene recreation: Learner response

Feedback:

  • Overall, his is a superb recreation of a challenging scene: well done!
  • Excellent performances + costume : several elements of mise-en-scene are clearly considered here.
  • so many nice touches and he conversation is edited impressively - good pace to it
  • Audio levels and one moment where Cassius looks a he camera provide us with some EBI's but this is a great start to media

Class Feedback:

  • Face punch could've been more explosive (more AGGRESSION)
  • Costume was good
  • Location was alright
  • Good camera work
  • Audio varies a lot (background audio)
  • Lighting not night
  • Actor looking into camera
  • punch sound effect
Own assessment:

WWW: i believe hat overall the setting was pretty good for being a little run down with a car park while he costume was also faithful to the scene as it creates he look and feel of the characters that of Tyler being a little random with a leather jacket and floral shirt and he narrator having a suit, as if he had just finished work. Also the camera work was quite good in terms of angels and positioning of characters while also in post edit i believe the use of colour grading and sound effects made the scene much more enjoyable (honourable mention to cinematic black bars that are not o large as to affect the scene to much.

EBI: The sting of the scene would have come out much more faithful if i had been darker and the setting a little closer to cars for the end scene. Also one of the actors looks into the camera which in retrospect should have been removed/cut out but much more importantly we should have taken many more shots in order to make sure we had a wide variety of clips to choose from. The punch near the end from the Narrator could be a lot more explosive and with much more movement as it seems to have come out quite weak/fake looking. Finally, the audio varied quite a lot which meant that a lot of random sounds from the surrounding area were coming through such as wind and cars but also people who are in the background.

Planning:

I feel that the planning helped me clarify the type of reactions and small subtle gestures that the characters make in order to fully portray that character i also believe that the use of a plan allowed me to know what props i would need for he shoot which allowed us to shoot the recreation without interruption of any props or anything else that may have been needed while writing down a script also helped with understanding the dialogue and getting the timing right for the conversation. The shot list also meant we were able to get all the scenes in to recreate the scene as faithfully

Technical improvements:

I think i could use a recording of 1 minute of no sound or ambience so ha i could put it over the video so that random ambience hat is unwanted dose not over shadow the dialogue. Also i would like to be able to use more editing techniques in post production so that it sounds much more natural and that my videos could be much more captivating.

Mise -en-scene importance:

From completing this ask i understand that through the use of mise en scene someone can establish different atmospheres and tones to a piece of film or video through the use of techniques such as costume, lighting, actors and their placement and subtle gestures, make up, props and set dressing and setting for the scene which all influence how the viewer or audience perceives that piece of media and what they can take from it and whether or not it is captivating while also being able to establish different themes and underlying narratives that give the audience clues and ideas to the narrative and to play with their expectations of the media.

It features an in-depth interview with Walter Iuzzolino who curates Channel 4's Walter Presents programming. Answer the questions below: 1) What does the article suggest regarding the traditional audience for foreign-language subtitled media? Fifteen years ago, if you'd mentioned to a colleague that you'd spent Saturday night glued to a subtitled European drama, you'd have been quietly declared pretentious, dull and, possibly, a little odd.Skip to today and foreign-language dramas aren't even on-trend, they're fully mainstream. Now we are as likely to discuss the latest Danish thriller over a morning flat white at our desks as we are a new season on HBO. 2) What does Walter Iuzzolino suggest is the key appeal of his 'Walter P...

Editing blog task

Your final analytical blog task is to find a film or television clip on YouTube that you feel has been edited in a distinctive way and write a 750 word analysis of the clip. Shawn of the dead (2004) 0:01 - 2:50  1800~ Words (Should be a good read) Starting with editing the scene that begins the sequence of events within this clip starts off with a few straight cuts create juxtaposition that establish the main character and links the eyesight of the protagonist ‘Shawn’ to a board on the wall which helps establish that what’s written on there is significant to him and specifically enables the audience to gain a grasp and some context behind Shawn as a character and then the its edited in a way in which the camera straight cuts to someone laying on the couch with Shawn in the back. This establishes a connection between him and the character as being close as we as an audience can assume they are friends due to the request made by the man laying on the couch. After this scene a lon...
